These are self hook up and zip. We watched several people bounce into the pine tree support and slide back out on the line and have to hand over hand pull themselves back to the tree landing or just slam into the tree. There is a hand brake on these hookups but it look as though guests were having a hard time using them.
No one had a helmet.
Got harnessed up and checked. Then climbed the hill and bridge to the starting perch. Our first rider Zipped away screaming with joy. One after another we yelled in joy and some with fear then joy. As you come to the end of the line there is a stopping system the gives you quite a jolt. One bleeding, one abrasion and one just nudged. It is their first year of the Zipline. We did have a FUN time doing this adventure. We rode the Train from Hill City to Keystone and this gave us something to do after walking through the shops.
We then had lunch before returning to Hill City by train. You have to be over 7 to ride by yourself and over 2 to ride at all according to the signage.
You can book a 'glamping' retreat at Mount Rushmore for a lavish outdoor experience
Me 30's, kids 17,14,8 went for the slide. Park in first spot available and then find tent in between Alpine slide and Zipline company to sign waiver. On the way up you can see Mt. Rushmore, a neat view since we had just come from there. At the top you will wait again for 15min to get on one of the two tracks. They are the same but one side is for riders who want to go slower You control the speed and you can get going pretty quick and the brakes response very well.
Bottom line is we should have bought two trips each. Once you buy 5 you get a discount automatically. Not a bad ride for the price. If looking to kill a little time in Keystone it is worth a shot! One good thing is that there is a line for slow and a lane for fast! We saw ads for the alpine slide and thought this would be a fun family activity. It's rather confusing to know where to go and what is what as the slide is adjacent to a zipline company. After finding the ticket window, we found out we had to sign waivers to ride. We bought the one trip ride, so all four of us got to ride down one time.
You ride a chairlift up to the top of the mountain and then ride the slide down.

The staff both at the bottom and the top are all young and could really care less about you being there and the job they are supposed to be doing. They all mumbled "instructions"--when they weren't talking to each other. They take your picture on the chairlift, but the boy in charge of that, was so busy talking to his buddy, he yelled 'smile' to us at the last possible moment catching us off guard--and quickly went back to his story. There was no explanation of what to do as we were handed our sleds and begin our journey. If it weren't for all the signs explaining the safety procedures, we wouldn't have known what to do.
Overall, we enjoyed the slide itself, but were really disappointed with the lack of customer service. Nice ski lift takes you to the top of the slide - and you have the option of riding the lift back down or taking the slide. Two slides available and you choose your pace by using a brake on the "sled". Kids and adults of all ages were enjoying this attraction.
Coupons for a little savings are in most of the local guides. Zip line and outdoor obstacle course attraction is located next door so you can do both. Tip - fill out the safety waiver before you get in line to buy tickets. Really enjoyed the slide, but not a great value. Ist trip down the hill was more about learning how to navigate safely down the hill. Really need 2 or 3 runs to really enjoy the ride. They should sell a 2 trip pass.

Naturally, you'll never achieve anywhere near that level of benefit. Take a look at the offerings and decide if you'll get at least twice the purchase fee back in savings. They might save you money on bookings, but it's also possible you can do better on your own. Their offerings are worth a look as you plan your visit. The Custer State Park entrance is just outside the town bearing that same name.
Although the entry fee is high, it's fair to say this is one of the premier state parks in the nation. It would be easy to spend several days here and still not cover all the attractions. Pay the entry fee gladly and know it represents a solid value. Driving through the park, it's possible you'll encounter a stray buffalo. If so, come to a complete stop and wait.
Although a curiosity, they can be dangerous if provoked. The visitor center offers a movie presentation explaining the buffalo habitat and other aspects of the park.

Three scenic drives, varying in distance from miles each, provide opportunities to observe other park residents, such as mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and perhaps even a mountain lion. But on a clear day, you'll also enjoy some memorable views. Plan on spending at least a day in the park. The western Pinnacles entrance is located south of Wall, S. The scenic drive through the park runs for about 25 mi. Keep in mind that Rapid City lies on the eastern edge of the Black Hills region. It's possible to see the park in a half day, but you're likely to want to spend more time observing the unique landforms and the wildlife.
You'll love watching the prairie dogs play, but watch out for rattlesnakes. The Ben Reifel Visitor Center offers exhibits to aid understanding of how these "badlands" came to exist. The best budget hotel options are in Rapid City, the region's largest urban area, and South Dakota's second-largest city. If you want a more convenient location in the smaller towns of the Black Hills, you'll pay for the privilege, especially during peak summer months. The parks offer prime RV and campsites.
Cabins can also be rented. In all, 96 level sites are available, most with scenic views. Be certain that you reserve campsites and RV parking well in advance of your summer visit. Reservations are not a bad idea at other times of year as well. Outdoor adventures in this region abound , with a great selection at prices generally more reasonable than one would expect in a resort area. Hikers, for example, will find about miles of trails on 75 marked routes.
Rock climbers find plenty of opportunities within designated areas of Custer State Park.
Golf and water sports are also available in the area, so plan carefully to find the best options for your skill level and budget. Wildlife is perhaps the best free attraction in the region.
